The General Store
The perfect place to pick up something to remember us by. The Trade Winds General Store & Craft Shop stocks a large selection of local crafts, jewelry and books by the best Nova Scotian artists and authors. The store also sells camping supplies, picnic items, and foodstuffs for those who like to cook their own meals. Also available are hats, caps and outerwear emblazoned with the Ovens logo. While you are shopping, you can visit our small museum filled with pictures and artifacts from Ovens Park, the birthplace of Nova Scotia's 1861 Gold Rush. There is also fabulous shopping in the nearby town of Lunenburg, a picture-postcard village of mid-1800's origin. |
Hodge Podge Lodge
Enjoy family dining in our magnificent oceanfront setting. One of the things that you can count on when you visit the Ovens is the quality of the food we serve from our kitchen. Our fish and chips are superlative, and our grilled hamburgers and hot dogs are the talk of the county. We also feature homestyle specials every day. Our bread is specially baked for us daily. We always have lots of fresh vegetables and salads on our menu. Whether your tastes are plain or fancy, you will surely find something to recharge your batteries at our fully licensed Cafe or at our take-out window. The kids will love our hand-dipped ice-cream, sundaes and shakes. Check out our restaurant, the Hodge Podge Lodge. At night, the mood is different. The atmosphere of the dining room changes. There is live music, with Steve Chapin at the piano, singing old favourites from the 30's and 40's, with the occasional musical curiosity (Chapin or otherwise) thrown in. You can sing along (or even sing solo if you've got the nerve), or just watch as Steve and some of his local (and visiting) musical cohorts entertain and enliven your spirits. A good time! |
